“Brussels wants to put an end to illegal Airbnbs” — Le Soir
An excellent article by Julien Bialas in Le Soir on 20 October: the title is provocative, yet highly revealing of the discomfort created by regulations that are nearly 10 years old and whose planned revision does not address the core of the problem. The Minister-President — in an unhealthy populist logic — continues to charge ahead without drawing the lessons that have nevertheless been clearly brought to his attention over all these years, and which the tourist residence sector has communicated in a highly transparent manner. Very damaging for Brussels! It is also extremely regrettable that there is no willingness to engage in dialogue to identify solutions acceptable to all parties. The battle is far from over — on the contrary, it risks intensifying during this pre-election period.
A noteworthy contribution from Wesley Gruijthuijsen, researcher at KU Leuven and Erasmus Hogeschool, points the way forward to objectify the debate. An impact analysis for Brussels, based on the various relevant criteria, must be conducted by the academic community. The political sphere is responsible for the decisions it takes and must demonstrate that these decisions are the best for Brussels and its citizens, and that they are not the result of biased, politically calculated policies.
STR-Belgium continues to strengthen its case significantly. Numerous actions are underway at many levels… You will be informed of the results first-hand!
