The seminar “Kwalitatief verblijfstoerisme in Europese kunststeden … road to 2026”, held on September 25 in Bruges, was a great success.
This event also provided the opportunity to officially formalise the close collaboration between the various associations representing the short-term rental sector at the local level (Gilde Der Brugse Gastenverblijven — GBG), regional level (Kleinschalige Stedelijke Logies Vlaanderen — KSLV), national level (STR-Belgium), and European level (European Holiday Home Association — EHHA).
One of the key takeaways: Brussels Economy & Employment has much to learn from the Flemish regional governance model implemented by Toerisme Vlaanderen, which — together with Portugal (ALEP) — has been taken as a reference by the European Union in its work that led to the Regulation on STR Data Collection and Sharing (2024/1028), which will enter into force on May 20, 2026.
We will return in detail to the fundamental improvement pathways in an upcoming opinion piece.
